Healthy Eating
The world of health and fitness is dominated by “secrets.” Each month magazines and books are coming out with the newest secrets that will shed fat and build muscle. It can get really confusing. The biggest health secret one month turns out to be replaced with another secret or new fad the next. But what about those of us that just want to eat good, healthy food? How should we go about eating to promote health? Is it best to eat gluten free? Paleo? Vegetarian? Vegan? Atkins?
I want to let you in on the only true diet secret: there is no secret. Different things work for different people. There is no magic bullet that is the “best” diet—even if you cook with The Magic Bullet. So what do you do? Follow your gut.
Deep down, we all know the difference between a healthy meal and one that isn’t healthy. The hard part is doing what we know.
For example, I love dried fruit. Even though I know that eating an entire Costco-sized bag of dried mango in one sitting is not a good idea, I lose all restraint, rhyme, and reason when a bag of dried mangoes is in front of me. I am not following what I know.
The way to connect what you know (how to eat healthy) and what you do (actually eating healthy) is by finding what is best for you and your lifestyle. Every person is different and healthy eating is different for every person. We all know what healthy foods we should eat more of; the trick is finding enjoyable ways to work them into your diet.
The most elaborate buildings in the world are built upon a basic foundation. At the base of everything you do in the kitchen lies a desire for good food. Complimentary to that desire is the ability to create delicious flavor profiles. From that base you can create meals ranging from simple comfort foods to exotic fusion cuisine—all you need now is the food.
